If you said yes to every opportunity you’d have no time to focus on your business and where you want to end up.

I wanted to chat today about how it’s OK to say no to opportunities that aren’t right for you. If they’re distracting you from your goal (or they won’t bring you happiness) say no!

I was listening to the Goal Digger Podcast yesterday while I was driving. Jenna was talking about decision making and how much easier it is once you know exactly where you want to be and what your goals are. I loved the way she put this!

As I’d already been thinking about sharing my thoughts on this topic I loved how clearly she put this. Having your end goal in mind, and balancing up the pros and cons of opportunities that come along. Knowing where you want to be and what life you want to live and how to get there.

When I started out in photography, I said yes to so many different styles and genres – birthday parties, big weddings, formal gala events and staged formal portraits! Now my focus is clearer and I’m much more efficient and I get to work with my dream clients.

Even now, I sometimes get requests for photographing products on black or white backdrops for online stores. As a Personal Brand Photographer I am a storyteller. I capture my clients’ personality in lifestyle images engaging with their environment. I might include products in these sessions in a lifestyle manner – in use and in their environment. If a client was after the studio backdrop images I would refer them to a photographer who specialises in this.

Whether opportunities come to you as speaking events, partnerships, expanding your niche or something else entirely – consider whether they will help you reach your dream goals and dream life.
