Paper pom poms from old dress patterns – re-use project!

These pom poms make great decorations for your DIY Wedding – imagine them draped from the ceiling at your reception or among the trees, perhaps with fairy lights among them. I love that this is a reuse project.

I love the old paper used for dress patterns – the texture and the natural colours are beautiful. I grabbed a heap of old patterns from the local op-shop – whites, creams and pale browns. I tried to go for the ones which hadn’t been cut as this makes it a lot quicker and easier to cut the paper to size. You could also use coloured tissue paper for this tutorial for a more colourful approach matching the colours to your wedding or event theme.

1. Cut your rectangles
I cut the paper into rectangles – layering them neatly for each pom pom. For me I got best results when I used 6-8 layers per pom pom depending on how large it was.

2. Fold
I then folded them concertina style

3. Tie
Tie a piece of string around the paper

4. Shape the ends

Cut each end to your desired shape – I chose points but you may prefer rounded edges

Carefully separate and fluff out each layer on each side
